CFN Partners with Calgary Sexual Health Centre

The Centre for Newcomers has partnered with Calgary Sexual Health Centre to offer settlement and peer support services specifically for the LGBTQ newcomer community. This project aims to build upon previously piloted services for LGBTQ newcomers and now offer services not only in Calgary, but also build capacity for LGBTQ newcomer services across Alberta.

Although both agencies are located in Calgary, we will provide support to communities that we market in across Alberta. Attention will be given to smaller cities such as Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Red Deer, Brooks, and Fort McMurray. Organizations in Edmonton will also be targeted, especially for a capacity building within the city. Within Calgary, our focus will be on refugee claimants and Canadian citizens who are LGBTQ+ immigrants requiring services. We will serve any community with immigrants and refugees that request supports.

Along with our continued settlement support for the LGBTQ+Newcomers, we now offer Alberta Practitioners education and guidance on LGBTQ newcomer issues and best practices in conducting sexual orientation and gender identity/expression needs assessments. Further still, for Alberta Communities as a whole we seek to provide LGBTQ education, capacity building and organizational assessments.

For more information on our LGBTQ settlement services or to make an appointment please contact Dr. Kelly Ernst at or Boban Stojanovic at  As an extension of these services, CFN and Calgary Sexual Health Centre, along with the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society are hosting a meet up next week for connection and conversation about LGBTQ+ immigrant and refugee support in Calgary.
